Enigin Update - £1 Billion Energy Efficiency Savings Available to Public Sector

Enigin Update - £1 Billion Energy Efficiency Savings Available to Public Sector

THE UK’s Carbon Trust have revealed that the country’s public sector could save £1 billion and shed 46 million tonnes of CO2 a year by improving energy efficiency.

The Carbon Trust, a UK government-backed advisory body, have determined several "immediate opportunities" for public organisations to save energy and reduce emissions including amongst others, more energy efficient lighting systems and building improvements.

The announcement was made yesterday at a meeting in London consisting of around 200 public sector organisations that have worked with the Carbon Trust to reduce their energy bills and carbon footprints.

The Carbon Trust reckon that the measures, when combined, could cut the carbon footprint of universities, hospitals, local authorities and central government organisations by roughly the annual output of London.

The Trust also said the savings would be in addition to those being attained by current energy efficiency projects, which are set to deliver savings of over £400m and reduce CO2 emissions by 10 million tonnes a year.

Richard Rugg, Head of Public Sector at the Carbon Trust, called for more public bodies to join the 2,500 participating in their various schemes and enjoy the savings offered by carbon management programmes.

"Today, public sector organisations are working in an incredibly tough environment with cost cutting right at the top of the agenda," he said.

"In 2011, actively managing energy and carbon must form an essential part of any efficiency strategy for every single public sector organisation, from the smallest local councils to the biggest NHS Trusts. We want to see more organisations stepping forward to take up the challenge."

Enigin Distributors in the UK have the technology from Enigin to enable the public sector to monitor and manage their energy use in real-time and with deep energy use data in an easy to understand graphical format by using Enigin Plc's Eniscope Real-time and Analytics.

The energy use data from Eniscope enables decision makers to take the right energy efficiency action in the right areas, while allowing for the best return on any investment along with the biggest savings of energy and money with reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
