Enigin News - Royal Institute Praises EU Energy Efficency Measures

The European Union (EU) agreement to introduce measures to improve the energy efficiency of commercial property has been praised by the UK’s Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors - reports UK Business Property.

According to the organisation, the new bill will help make business property more environmentally friendly, as well as helping companies to cut the costs of their energy requirements.

Commercial property and residential buildings contribute 40% of all carbon dioxide emissions and Rics believes the introduction of the new rules will help to reduce the negative effects of construction on the environment.

A spokesperson for Rics said the group fully supports "the commission's objective to strengthen the provisions of the current Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and to provide more clarity in a number of areas".

Rics currently represents the interests of over 100,000 qualified members of the construction sector - along with 50,000 students and trainees across 140 different countries - and is focused on maintaining the high standards of the property industry.
