Copenhagen deal could result in greener living business opportunities
New energy-saving business opportunities could arise across Europe if a global warming deal at a UN summit in Copenhagen this year is approved by member countries.
While taking the mantle of the rotating six-month EU presidency, Sweden's prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt declared tackling climate change as the central challenge of this generation that needs to be dealt with, reports UK newspaper the Guardian.
The Copenhagen meeting in December is aimed at reaching a new deal on reducing energy consumption and cutting emissions and may pave the way for new energy-saving initiatives and business opportunities.
According to the newspaper, Mr Reinfeldt and European commission boss Jose Manuel Barroso have been inspired by recent measures by US president Barack Obama to combat climate change.
The Swedish premier will use his new authority to lobby the US, China, Russia, and Brazil, which are the biggest polluters into a supporting a new deal ahead of the Copenhagen meeting, the newspaper reported.
Green business opportunities are increasingly emerging as awareness on energy conservation increases among consumers and businesses.
