Consumers want guidance on purchasing energy saving products

Consumers want guidance on purchasing energy saving products New research has revealed that consumers are keen to adopt energy saving products and almost two thirds (63 per cent) are more likely to purchase an item if they know its manufacturer is working to reduce its carbon footprint.

The statistics from Carbon Trust also show that nearly one in four (70 per cent) want businesses to provide more guidance to help them choose eco-friendly products such as energy saving light bulbs.

Aimed at understanding consumer attitudes on carbon reduction and the labelling of individual products, the study shows that businesses have a big role to play in tackling climate change, according to the Carbon Trust's Euan Murray.

"Companies can't ignore the fact that consumers do care about climate change and what a brand is doing to fight it," he stated.

"Retailers and producers who are committed to reducing their products' carbon footprints can get ahead by responding to this increasing consumer demand."

The research comes amid calls from FTSE 100 company Land Securities for facilities management companies to urge their tenants to use energy saving products to help reduce their carbon footprint.
