Carbon Trust loan extension could spur UK greener living business opportunities

Carbon Trust loan extension could spur UK greener living business opportunities Greener living business opportunities in the UK have received a boost from the Carbon Trust, which has announced the expansion of interest-free and unsecured loans aimed at benefitting small and medium-sized enterprises (SME).

Improving SMEs' access to the £100 million kitty is designed to help them survive the recession by cutting both their energy costs and their carbon footprints by enabling them to invest in energy-saving programmes and products.

The minimum loan amount has been lowered to just £3,000 in a bid to reach out to micro-enterprises and enable them to join the more than 75 per cent of businesses that have already cut their annual energy bills with the help of the loans.

"SMEs are the backbone of the UK economy and key to the move to the low carbon world," explained Carbon Trust chief executive Tom Delay.

"Our zero per cent loan offer is as close to free money as a business can get, and is flexible enough to help almost any small or medium business, from the corner fish and chip shop to a factory."

Over 17 million tonnes of CO2 and more than £1 billion has been saved by UK business since 2001 thanks to the Carbon Trust.
