Businesses to benefit from new energy saving programme
Businesses interested in putting in place energy saving programmes to help them manage and reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are set to benefit from a public consultation designed to help them achieve this objective.
The consultation has been launched by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and Defra and it will be followed by guidance outlining how businesses should calculate their own corporate carbon footprint.
"I hope this guidance will make the measuring and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions easier for all organisations as a first step in helping them to manage and reduce their emissions," said secretary of state for the environment Hilary Benn.
"It is not just aimed at large, listed companies; smaller enterprises also have a part to play in tackling GHG emissions."
Launching on October 1st 2009, the guidance will be published under the requirements of the Climate Change Act 2008, which outlines how the UK will manage and respond to the threat of environmental change.
