Businesses are keen on energy efficiency

Businesses are keen on energy efficiency Businesses are keen on embracing energy saving opportunities and have a grasp of green issues, according to an expert representing a coalition of environment, transport and airport campaign groups.

Speaking after business leaders signed a petition to oppose the building of a third runway for Heathrow Airport, John Stewart, spokesman for The Pledge Against Airport Expansion, said that businesses are ready to cut down on unnecessary transport.

"I think there is more awareness among businesses about green issues and the surveys do tend to suggest that business travellers will be flying less in the future partly because [of that awareness]," he said.

He went on to state that businesses are aware of alternatives such as video conferencing and will be exploring them partly because of the recession in order to save money.

Mr Stewart added that the business case for a third runway has not been made.

According to HACAN, flight numbers in the UK are going to rise by four per cent to six per cent over the next 20 years and this will require up to five new runways in addition to all existing ones.
