Building firm demonstrates energy-saving solutions with head office
A commercial builder based in Fairview Heights, Illinois is using its headquarters to showcase the latest developments in energy-efficient construction.
Work on the head office of Impact Strategies was completed last year at a cost of $2.1 million, with the US firm ensuring that its base was equipped with a variety of energy-saving specifications.
According to the Belleville News-Democrat, the 20,000 sq ft building uses sensors to automatically turn off light fittings when rooms are not being used, while a computer system can also regulate how much artificial light is needed in certain areas by measuring natural light levels.
Mike Christ, executive vice president of Impact Strategies, told the news provider that the phrase "green building" could now contain the two most popular words in the US construction sector.
"They have become very popular in the past several years in the basic concept of designing and building facilities and then being able to operate them in a manner that will minimise the impact we have on the environment and natural resources," he explained.
Impact Strategies was recently involved in the construction of a new campus for Vatterott College, an education provider based in nearby St Louis.
